My Lyme Symptoms

I’ll warn you right now – this is a big ass list. I put them in some kind of structure to make it easier to read. It is not in order of which symptoms I experienced first, or which ones are the worst, or most persistent. (Take note that none of these symptoms are “visible” from the outside.)


There are many symptoms that wax & wane, some symptoms were short lived & I only experienced briefly, and there are some symptoms that are constant and will not leave me in peace. Drumroll please.



  • Cognitive dysfunction “brain fog”
  • Speech problems, slurring words, slow speech, forgetting mid-sentence what I was saying
  • Memory problems, difficulty finding the right words
  • Dizziness, faint headedness
  • Decreased fine motor function
  • Difficulty with multi-tasking
  • Trouble staying organized
  • Trouble staying focused, short attention span
  • Trouble problem solving, poor judgement
  • Disorientation, getting lost



  • Constant abdominal bloating, full body swelling
  • Abdominal pains, discomfort & gas
  • Diarrhea, constipation, irregular bowel movements
  • Frequent & urgent-feeling urination (especially when trying to sleep)
  • Some incontinence, feeling of bladder infection
  • Extreme heartburn (GERD)



  • Weak legs “jelly legs”
  • Trouble walking, unsteady gait
  • Numb & tingling limbs
  • Shock-like pains
  • Sporadic, involuntary muscle jerks/spasms
  • Random bouts of near seizure-like full body muscle jerks
  • Balance & coordination problems “insta-klutz”
  • Chronic, severe & debilitating neck pain and back pain
  • Chronic, severe & debilitating joint pain
  • Stiff & sore muscles (feels like strains & bruises)
  • Tender/sore ribs, chest & sternum
  • Overall weakness & muscle fatigue
  • Easily over-exerted
  • Feeling cold/freezing & can’t warm up
  • Frequent headaches, occasional migraines
  • Day sweats, night sweats (fever-like)
  • Hives, irritated itchy skin
  • Dry mouth (especially when trying to sleep)
  • Dental pain, mouth & nose sores
  • Restless leg syndrome



  • Crushing chronic fatigue – always feeling beyond exhausted
  • Trouble sleeping, insomnia, over-sleeping &/or frequent awakening
  • Bouts of being bed-ridden
  • Respiratory distress in the form of air hunger (like yawning attacks or breathlessness)
  • Over-sensitivity to light, sounds & smells
  • Easily overwhelmed by stimuli & stress
  • Easily startled which spikes fight-or-flight response causing acute stress, rattled nerves
  • Temporary sexual dysfunction
  • Unexplained bouts of sadness & uncontrollable crying, irritability
  • Symptoms worsen during times of stress
  • Symptoms worsen near period time
